It is sometimes written "Entropy", "Entropie" or "Antropi", but it is always the same AI-based authentication system, widely used by pre-owned luxury resellers. We use it every day. What is Entrupy?
Entrupy is an American company founded in 2012. It developed a system that authenticates luxury goods through microscopic imaging and machine learning. Its device, a digital magnifier connected to an app, is used by many resellers, consignment stores and auction houses. Each analysis produces a dated digital certificate that can be verified online with a unique identifier.
How does the analysis work?
The operator photographs the piece at several points with the Entrupy device: main material, stitching, hardware, markings, lining. Each image is taken at very high magnification, where the texture of the leather, the grain of the canvas or the engraving of the metal have signatures that are very hard to reproduce. These images are compared with a database of millions of authentic pieces and referenced counterfeits. The algorithm returns a conclusion: authentic, or unidentified. In our shop, this analysis comes after our own physical inspection, never instead of it.
Is Entrupy reliable?
Entrupy states an accuracy above 99% and backs every certificate with a financial guarantee: if a piece certified as authentic turned out to be counterfeit, the company refunds. This is what sets Entrupy apart from an isolated expert opinion, the conclusion rests on measurable physical data and not on an impression. The system has two limits worth knowing. It only covers the brands and categories present in its database, and it judges neither the condition nor the value of a piece. Our view: it is the most solid tool available to a distance buyer, provided it is used by someone who also knows the house and its codes.
How much does an Entrupy authentication cost?
Entrupy does not sell certificates to private individuals. You need to go through an equipped professional. At Le Comptoir Vintage, there are two cases:
- Piece bought from us: the Entrupy certificate costs €20, and it is free for purchases of €1,000 or more.
- Piece bought elsewhere: our Entrupy authentication service includes the prepaid Chronopost label, the physical inspection, the Entrupy analysis, the certificate and the return of the piece. €60 for Louis Vuitton and most brands, €80 for Chanel, €189 for Hermès. Result within 48 hours of reception.
Which brands are covered?
Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Hermès, Dior, Gucci, Prada, Fendi, Céline, Balenciaga, Burberry, Goyard, Saint Laurent, Bottega Veneta, Loewe and most major houses, for bags, wallets and pouches. Jewelry, scarves and clothing are not covered. For these categories, we provide our house certificate after physical inspection.
What does the certificate look like?
The certificate is a digital document sent by email. It shows the brand, the category, the date of the analysis, the name of the professional and a unique identifier that can be verified on Entrupy's website. It has no expiry date. It is the document that resale platforms and luxury consignment stores ask for.
What Entrupy does not replace
A certificate says nothing about the condition of the piece, its historical consistency or its value. This is why every bag that passes through our hands is first checked point by point: canvas, leather, stitching, hardware, date code, lining, accessories. Is Entrupy free?
No. Entrupy is a professional service billed to the reseller, who passes it on. At Le Comptoir Vintage, the certificate is free for purchases of €1,000 or more and costs €20 otherwise. For a piece bought elsewhere, the full service starts at €60.
Can Entrupy be wrong?
The stated accuracy is above 99% and every certificate is backed by a financial guarantee. The main risk lies with the operator: a poorly photographed piece or a brand outside the database does not give a usable result. This is why we always pair the analysis with a physical inspection.
Can I buy the Entrupy device myself?
Entrupy is aimed at professionals, on subscription. For a private individual, the simplest route is an equipped reseller who offers the service.
Is the Entrupy certificate recognized when reselling?
Yes. Luxury platforms and consignment stores commonly ask for it, and it can be verified online at any time thanks to its unique identifier.
How long does an authentication take?
The analysis itself takes a few minutes. In our shop, the result is delivered within 48 hours of receiving the piece, round-trip Chronopost transport included for France and the European Union.
